Femdom, short for female dominance, is the practice in which the female partner takes the dominant role in the relationship. This is often found around BDSM circles, but is growing in popularity in the mainstream. The dominant woman is often referred to as the dome, femdomme, domina, dominatrix, or mistress depending on her preference and the context of the relationship. The term mistress, in this sense, is simply the female version of ‘master’. It should not be confused with a female who enters into a relationship with a married man. While often sexual, femdom is a practice that covers all aspect of daily life, both in the bedroom and out of it.
Femdom has no set of official rules, as there isn’t a list of activities that define female dominance exclusively. The dominatrix is the one to decide what actions, if any, are appropriate for the specific context of the situation. Prior to a session, the dominatrix will often consult with her submissive about any boundaries he or she may have. She will also provide a safe word that her submissive may blurt out if anything becomes too intense.
Common activities in femdom sessions include forced pegging (penetration with a strap on), in which the dominatrix will perform anal sex on the submissive; forced feminization of the male partner; forced cunnilingus or “face sitting”; denial of the submissives orgasm; “cock and ball torture”; body and foot worship; ass worship; slapping of the face; hair pulling; whipping with a cane; hot wax on the sensitive parts of the body; heavy whipping; forced chastity; forced homoeroticism; spitting; and golden showers.
There is also some sort of role playing involved in which both the dominatrix and submissive take the role of a character during the session. Typical dominatrix characters would be dungeon mistress, police officer, school teacher, angry parent, or other authoritarian roles. The submissive will obviously play the weaker role. They will often be a baby, adolescent, student, dressed as a female, or any other humiliating and submissive role. Role playing during a femdom session allows all parties involved to get into the moment in a way that would be impossible if they “played” themselves.
While femdom may seem extreme to many people, the act is not uncommon. Many females enjoy the ability to take control of relationships in a world that is generally dominated by men. Men, as well, enjoy giving up control in certain situations.
