Cougars and MILFS! You may have heard these terms tossed around in the movies or at a local party, but what exactly do they mean? MILF is an acronym for “Mom I’d Like to Fuck!” So, if a young stud comes across a good looking older lady, he will call her a MILF! This term originated in the popular teen comedy from the 1990’s, American Pie. In the movie, one of the main characters’ mothers was quite attractive and engaged in sexual activity with a recently graduated high school teenager. While the term provided a lot of laughs in the movie, every young man now had an easy way to describe a good looking older woman.
The term cougar is somewhat of a synonym for MILF. However, while not officially defined by anyone, a cougar is an attractive older lady who is actively seeking a sexual relationship with a younger man. We’ve all seen these women; they’re the attractive but obviously old females who hang out at college bars. They wear seductive clothing that some would say is inappropriate for their age and they often have no problem being straight forward with young men about what they want.
It seems that these terms are only gaining popularity and acceptance in everyday culture. It could possibly be due to the fact that young men now have a way to describe their strong desire for older women. Maybe it’s the fact that woman can now actively seek younger mates without the need to feel embarrassed or ashamed of their needs. Whatever it may be, MILFS and cougars seem to be here to stay.
The amount of hot moms in the media has no doubt helped the proliferation of these terms. Demi Moore is a great example. Her roles in Charlie’s Angels and Striptease have reinforced the individuality of older women. Linda Hogan is another classic cougar. It was revealed in the media in 2007 that she was having an affair with a much younger man. She was 48 years old and was dating a 19 year old man. This relationship ultimately resulted in a divorce between her and long time husband Hulk Hogan. While a cougar doesn’t need to be married, one can see why they would be attracted to a younger man if their husband was not providing for them sexually at home. This is no doubt a hard blow to the man being cheated on.
Reception of these terms and their subsequent lifestyles has been mixed to say the least. Many people may have a negative perception of women who openly seek out and engage in sexual relationships with much younger men. They believe it is not a traditional way to behave and that these women should be with men their own age. There are also a large number of people who support the practice. Obviously the members involved are all for it. It has yet to be seen how this practice will be ultimately received by our society and cultures around the world.
